Canada - Proposed Spam Law

no spamAt the time of writing (June 2008) Canada has no official federal legislation regarding spam, despite a unanimous recommendation of the 2005 National Task Force on Spam.

With no government sponsored leglisation on the horizon, Canadian Senator Yoine Goldstein has introduced a private members bill in the Senate. Despite this being one of the most comprehensive proposals made to date (being modeled on the Australian system), commentators say this private bill has little chance of getting through.

However it should put pressure on the Canadian Government do actually do something about the issue which is threatening to see Canada becoming a haven for spammers seeking refuge in countries with slack anti-spam legislation.
