A Big List - The “Key” To OnLine Success?

You’re constantly being told that the key to online success is to build a big list… because that’s where the money is!

Heck… I’ve get at least half a dozen different promotional emails every week telling me I have to get out there and get started on building a BIG LIST

The trouble is, it IS one of those expressions that is pretty believable!

After all… It IS the Internet Marketer’s Mantra
So it MUST be true!

Essentially, what happens is…

  1. you capture the name and email address of someone who is interested in what you do,
  2. and then you send them promotional stuff,
  3. which they hopefully buy.

Now…

  1. the more people you have on your list,
  2. and/or the more “stuff” you send,
  3. the more money you make.

The “essence” of the Manta is 100% correct!

If you are NOT yet marketing to a list of people who are interested in you, then you ARE destined to limited success, or possibly even outright failure, online.

So What’s The Problem Then?

Well, the BIG problem lies in HOW you are marketing to your “list” based on your interpretation of this expression.

Far too many people are putting the wrong meaning into this Internet Marketing mantra… and as a result, it’s causing them immense difficulty with their online marketing efforts.

The most common interpretation people put on it is:
NUMBERS, PROMOTION, and MONEY, where…

  • you HAVE to have a big list (in the ten’s of thousands) to be successful, and
  • you HAVE to bombard these people daily to make money

It’s Time For Some IM Math 101
To See Why This “Works”…

Let’s assume you have an “average” biggish list of some 20,000 subscribers, and you send an email every 1.5 days - which is not that uncommon for some marketers pushing the “envelope” so to speak…

Over a year, you’ll send HALF A MILLION emails!

Also assume an average sale price of the various things you promote, is around $19.95…

Let’s see what different response rates might mean on 500k emails a year:

response rates

Another line of thought is that each subscriber on your list is worth at least $1 a month. That puts your annual income around $240,000.

So, in theory, the bigger your “list”… the MORE money you make!

Now those are pretty good figures aren’t they?

And because the “promise” is so good, it’s easy to see why the vast majority of marketers want to follow the herd and build the mega-list!

BUT… Here’s the rub…

If this works so well, then…

Why Do 96% Of People Who Try,
FAIL To Make A Decent Online Income?

Many recent surveys have confirmed that most people earn UNDER $500 a month from their online marketing!

And more than half of these people don’t have a “list” of their own.

Why is that do you think?

So…
What meaning do YOU put on the expression “The Money Is In The List”?

And as a result of that…
What tactics are you employing with your online business because of that interpretation?
